Why can't I see more?

Because young people stop sharing when they feel monitored. If the app showed parents everything, the young person would simply use a different app, and then you see nothing. When your teenager is in control, you get an honest signal instead of a polished one.

The parent view is therefore intentionally sparse. That is not a shortcoming. That is the whole point.

What you see and what you don't

You seeYou never see
The mood slider (and energy, if your teenager turns it on)Crews, friends, and chats
A graph of the last 7 daysWhat has been written to friends
The text your teenager writes specifically for parentsConversations with the AI Bestie
A talk flag for parents (green, yellow, or red)Who your teenager has reacted to

This is not just a promise in a setting. The connection between you and your teenager is its own encrypted channel, and it only receives the mood fields. The rest is never sent to you, so it cannot leak to you either.

How to get access

  1. Your teenager creates a parent invitation in the app, as a link or a QR code.
  2. You download the same app and select "I am a parent".
  3. You get a simple view with one screen per teenager who has invited you.

You can respond without words. The first button is "I'm here if you want". Not "why are you sad??". There is also a chat that your teenager can open or leave closed.

If you are removed

Your teenager can remove you at any time, without the app making a drama out of it. You will then see "not shared right now". What you have already been shown remains on your phone, but you won't receive anything new. Don't take it personally. It is part of what makes young people feel safe using the app.

Safety rails

  • Closed network. No public profiles, no searching for strangers, no "people you may know". You can only join a crew with a link or a QR code from someone who is already in it.
  • 15+ only. The app is for young people aged 15 and over, because mood data counts as health information, and that requires the young person's own explicit consent. There is an age limit upon sign-up.
  • Report and block. Everyone can block, leave a crew, and report messages. A report only sends the messages the young person themselves selects, from their phone to us.
  • The AI is not an adult and not a therapist. Bestie helps with friendship drama. If a conversation involves self-harm, suicide, abuse, violence, eating disorders, or serious threats, it switches over and displays a fixed help card with real phone numbers. That card is written in advance by humans, not by the AI.
  • No screen time chasing. No streaks, no likes, no leaderboards, and quiet from 10 pm to 7 am by default.
  • No ads, no data selling, no tracking. Read more in our privacy policy.

If you are concerned

TeenMood can give you a signal. It cannot replace a conversation, and it is not a surveillance tool. If you are worried about your child, talk to the child, the school, or your GP. If you need to talk to someone yourself, you can find help here:
